Your privacy is our primary concern. This Privacy Policy explains how Ather Notepad ("the Extension") handles your information.

1. Information Collection and Storage

Ather Notepad is designed with a strict "Local First" architecture. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your personal data on external servers.

All notes, preferences, and data created within the Extension are stored entirely locally on your device using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage API.

2. Bookmark Backups

If you enable the automatic bookmark backup feature, the Extension will securely save a copy of your notes into a dedicated folder within your browser's local Bookmarks. This data never leaves your browser unless you have explicitly enabled Chrome Sync across your own Google account devices.

3. Third-Party Access and Analytics

• No Analytics: We do not use any third-party analytics software to track your usage behavior.
• No Telemetry: We do not track errors, crashes, or feature usage.
• No Advertisements: We do not display ads, nor do we share your data with advertisers.
• No External Servers: The Extension operates entirely offline once installed. We have no databases or servers where your data is sent.

4. Required Permissions Justification

Ather Notepad requests certain permissions strictly to function as a locally-hosted utility:

• Storage: To save your notes and settings locally on your device.
• Bookmarks: To create automatic, local backups of your notes within your browser so you don't lose them.
• Context Menus & Tabs: To allow you to right-click text on web pages and save it directly to a note, and to open the notepad seamlessly in new tabs or standalone windows.
• Downloads: To allow you, the user, to manually export your notes as text or HTML files to your local machine.

5. Your Consent

By using Ather Notepad, you consent to this Privacy Policy. Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control over your information. You can delete all your data at any time by uninstalling the extension or clearing your browser's local extension data.

6. Changes to this Privacy Policy

If we make any changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. Because we do not collect your email address, we cannot notify you directly of changes. Please review this policy periodically.
